EMIS: improving the information system for management and monitoring
Efficient data collecting and processing can provide quantitative and qualitative information
Decision-makers need reliable information on schools, students, personnel and resources
Too often, the data produced is limited to an all too sparse statistical yearbook. Good management presupposes not just the collection, but also the evaluation of the information needs of users. It also calls for the selection, organization, presentation, and communication of indicators that can make a difference in decision-making.
Providing efficient instruments for collecting, processing and analyzing data
Technical support is provided to countries seeking to improve their educational information systems. IIEP assists them in:
- evaluating their information needs
- improving procedures for collecting and processing data
- supporting statistical publications and systems of indicators that will better serve the end users.
Current activities include a project on how to make better use of information at local level to improve quality of education, including the development of a database for management.
