The video illustrates the main concepts of the Man and the Biosphere
(MAB) Programme, through the presentation of the history, definition
and functions of Biosphere Reserves. It emphasizes especially the
main achievement of Biosphere Reserves: establishing a partnership
between people and nature. Such a partnership is implemented through
a wide array of activities: eco-tourism, eco-jobs and training,
scientific research and monitoring, preservation of traditions and
cultures, education. Not only are Biosphere Reserves grounded on
the three pillars of sustainability - economics, environment, and
society – but they also are promoting a fourth one: cultural diversity.
