Planet Earth", 3-5 June 2008, UNESCO, Paris. “Future of Planet
Earth” planned for June 2008 (UNESCO, Paris), is the second of a
series of joint UNESCO/Foundation for the Future seminars. It will
enable face-to-face dialogues among scholars representing diverse
worldviews, disciplines, and backgrounds as well as decision-makers
and management practitioners to promote keen inquiry into and understanding
of factors that can improve options and opportunities for the future

3rd International Conference on Geoparks sponsored by UNESCO,
22-26 June 2008, Osnabrueck, Germany. For the first time, the International
Conference on Geoparks will be held in the heart of a Global Geopark,
TERRA.vita. The Conference goal is to raise awareness for the geological
heritage of our planet far beyond the Geopark borders. Topics will
be: How best communicate the fascination of Geoparks to a wider
public, how to integrate them in tourism offers, how to achieve
regional development. A wide ranged supporting programme with the
1st International Geoparks Fair, school projects and public lectures
will make sure that the conference reaches a wider public. More

Biosphere reserve nominations for 2008. The deadline for
submission of new biosphere reserve nominations is 30 September
2008. The MAB National Committees are invited to submit biosphere
reserve nominations (and/or extensions to existing biosphere reserves)
in hard copy with the original signatures of endorsement and original
maps, and also in electronic form as well as periodic review reports.
Countries wishing advice may contact the MAB Secretariat or the
Field Offices. The nomination and periodic review forms are available
in English, French and Spanish. More

5th International ProGEO Symposium on Conservation of the Geological
Heritage, 1 - 5 October 2008, Rab Island, Croatia. The main
objectives of the symposium dedicated to the International Year
of Planet Earth are: to communicate with public by outreach activities;
to discuss threats and site loss, and constraints imposed by town
and country (spatial) planning; to promote activities of ProGEO
working groups on European geosites; to encourage national geoparks
projects in the framework of sustainable development; to discuss
legal frameworks of national geoparks and their practical management;
to enhance geotourism and its potentials for regional developments;
to improve quality of communication between geo-conservationists
