Proposals
Sustainable land use of multicultural border regions with
the help of TBRs
It is proposed to create a collaborative Project in direction
of sustainable land use of multicultural border regions with
the help of Transboundary biosphere reserves. The example
of such collaborative work is currently executing by MAB NCs
of Belarus, Poland and Ukraine the UNESCO JFIT-funded project
"Establishment of a Transboundary Biosphere Reserve and a
Regional Ecological Network in Polesie". Two international
tools (UNESCO Transboundary biosphere reserves and Pan-European
ecological network) are used for realization of the project.
UNESCO concept on enhancing linkages between cultural and
biological diversity as a foundation of sustainable development
is aimed at demonstrating the inextricable connection between
nature, man and culture, where man and knowledge play vital
role as a key cohesive element.
In Polesie region this connection is evident and crucial:
the region's cultural and historical heritage cannot be separated
from its unique nature, while the customs and traditions of
the indigenous population add substantially to its importance.
In connection with the activity education on the unique natural
conditions, cultural and historical heritage, folk traditions
and customs and dissemination of information is very important.
For example, such the information on biological and cultural
linkages will be available on http://science.basnet.by/unesco.htm
soon. Spreading the project idea with involving the other
TBR areas will strengthen the idea of UNESCO Transboundary
biosphere reserves in European border areas.

Economic partnership with BIONADE Company
WANTED: Organic farmers who produce litchi, ginger and orange
in UNESCO biosphere reserves
BIONADE is a non-alcoholic refreshment drink for wellness
and fitness. It is produced in the Rhön biosphere reserve
in a family owned brewery and has become very successful on
German markets (it is said to be the second most sold soft
drink after Coca Cola by now). BIONADE is now a company partner
of the Rhön biosphere reserve. The drink is made through a
completely organic fermentation process (like beer making)
from natural ingredients of organic quality, such as water,
malt etc. and natural flavours: Elderberry, lychee, herbs
and ginger-orange. The last few years the company has started
to use more and more regional agricultural products which
come from farms inside the biosphere reserve or nearby. Thus
an organic elderberry cultivation project has been launched
with local farmers in cooperation with the biosphere reserve
administration.
The natural flavours which cannot be produced in our region
for climatic reasons, such as lychee, ginger and orange need
to be imported from abroad. BIONADE is looking for organic
farms in other biosphere reserves in the world, that produce
theses ingredients as to EU standards for organic production
in order to become a potential company partner.
The Rhön biosphere reserve sees itself as a facilitator to
bring partners together. Thus please do not send any requests
to BIONADE directly but contact us instead.
