EuroMAB is the largest and oldest of the MAB networks (52 countries including Canada and the USA). Meetings of the MAB National Committees of EuroMAB have taken place almost every two years since 1986 (Ceske Budowijce, in the now Czech Republic). However, given the large number of biosphere reserves (now 254), it has been difficult to organize EuroMAB meetings which comprehensively reflected the needs and interests of all MAB National Committees and at the same time all the biosphere reserve coordinators.

The last full coordinators' meeting was held in 1998 in Finland, and the following EuroMAB meetings in 2000 (Cambridge, UK) and 2002 (Rome, Italy) involved only a limited number of biosphere reserve coordinators. A NordMAB biosphere reserve meeting was held in Latvia in 2004.

In consequence, the EuroMAB 2005 meeting held near the Wienerwald Biosphere Reserve, Vienna, Austria, was specially designed for a maximum of biosphere reserve coordinators, aiming at allowing participants to mix and become better acquainted, thereby encouraging cooperative efforts with the expected outcome of improving the functioning of the EuroMAB network overall. Background
This platform aims to facilitate exchanges and cooperation activities between the EuroMAB Network and to serve as a forum for coordinators and MAB Committees to post their offers for partnerships and cooperation amongst different biosphere reserves.

News and Events
The Turkish MAB National Committee has produced a four pages leaflet on the EuroMAB Draft Action Plan which was distributed during the 3rd World Congress of Biosphere Reserves in Madrid. More

Partnerships and cooperation
Coordinators and MAB Committees are invited to post their proposals and requests for partnerships and cooperation amongst different biosphere reserves and to share with each others.

DESD Biosphere reserves as learning sites for sustainable development
With the launching of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD) in 2005, there is a unique opportunity for the MAB programme to reinforce the use of biosphere reserves and their networks as learning sites for sustainable development by a) using biosphere reserves as sites for science for sustainability support sites (sites were evidence-based policy making is encouraged) for society, testing approaches to manage changes and interactions between social and ecological systems, including conflict prevention and management of biodiversity; and b) sharing the practices and values of biosphere reserves as well as better define their services, products and tools to sustainable development for national decision makers and the international community.

This site can be used to publicise information on DESD activities within specific biosphere reserves, offers for schools exchanges, twinning ... between biosphere reserves, information on national and regional efforts on DESD which involve biosphere reserves.

EuroMAB general documentation and reports
Recommendations and decisions of the main EuroMAB meetings as well as reports, publications and articles are available here.

EuroMAB E-Conferences
The EuroMAB e-conferences objective are to contribute to both regional and international discussions, to raise the visibility of biosphere reserves as learning sites for sustainable development, and to better share biosphere reserves’ experience in linking biodiversity research with the main problems and questions that arise in policy and society on biodiversity.
