Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation

 

H.E. Yahya Ben Saud Al Sulaimi (Minister of Education, Oman) and Koïchiro Matsuura (Director-General of UNESCO) with the 2007 Laureats.

This prestigious Prize has been made possible through a generous donation to UNESCO by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al-Said, Oman. The objective of the Prize is to afford recognition to outstanding contributions by individuals, groups of individuals, institutes or organizations in the management or preservation of the environment, consistent with the policies, aims and objectives of UNESCO, and in relation to the Organization's programmes in this field. The Prize, which is provided on a biennual basis, consists of a diploma together with a financial reward.

  • 2007 Prize Laureates
  • The next Prize will be awarded in 2009. Nomination forms for the 2009 Prize will be available in late 2008, early 2009.
 

Nominations for the Prize can only be made by UNESCO Members States and by International Organizations or by Non-Governmental Organizations which have consultative status with UNESCO, each of which may make only one nomination in any biennium. Individuals or universities, as well as organization which do not have consultative status with UNESCO, can therefore not submit nominations.
