| Five Transboundary
Biosphere Reserves in Europe |
 |
Published by UNESCO-MAB, July 2003.
The Seville Strategy recommends that "the establishment of transboundary
biosphere reserves be encouraged, as a means for dealing with the
conservation of organisms, ecosystems and genetic resources that
cross national boundaries". In 2000, the MAB ICC adopted a set of
Recommendation for the establishment and functioning of transboundary
biosphere reserves. This publication aims at giving an insight into
the experience of the first five-transboundary biosphere reserves
- all of which are located in Europe - to guide other countries.
It is based on the findings of field studies by two MAB consultants
in 2000-2001.

| Implementing
the Convention on Biological Diversity on the Ground - The Example
of Biosphere Reserves |
 |
Published by: Bundesamt für Naturschutz (BfN), German
Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, Bonn, Germany 2002
Biosphere reserves not only provide examples and good practices,
which may be illustrative for how
the Convention on Biological Diversity may be implemented. It is
this but it is more: Biosphere reserves can and should be used to
as tools for implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Awareness is growing about the links between the two concepts. Needed
are now ideas and strategies
for how biosphere reserves can fulfil their role in implementing
the Convention.
