Ten years ago, the Division of Ecological Sciences of UNESCO took a significant and pioneer decision in creating the first website of UNESCO. It was the beginning of a new trend in the information and communication field. The development and maintenance of the Division's website constitutes a scientific research tool and makes the MAB Programme's activities well-known inside and outside UNESCO.

NATURAL SCIENCES SECTOR

The year 2005 should be a fruitful year for UNESCO: it has been designated as lead agency for the promotion of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) and today's Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences seizes this opportunity to focus the 10th year's celebration of its website on this particular topic.

Here is some news on this particular topic:

  • The winner: Mr Philippe Dorison (France) for "Lamto" (download file 85MB, wmv format)
Note: This film is in French and focuses on the Lamto Research Station (Côte d'Ivoire) and surrounding areas which will be established in the coming future as a biosphere reserve. It is a good example of collaboration between the local people and the scientific community with regards to biodiversity conservation and sustainable resources use.
