Ecological characteristics: - Trans-boundary Natural Water catchments area. - Largest Caldera in the world with hot spring at over 4000m a.s.l. - Habitat for over 300 bird species endemic to East Africa Protection classifications: At the national level: National Park status Gazetted forest reserve in 1938 and its status lifted to National park to maintain its ecological values in 1993. |
