Conference Announcement and Call for Papers

9 - 10 May 2002

This conference of the Australian Migration Research Network is being hosted by the University of Sydney’s Multicultural Research Centre with support from the University’s Research Cluster on Globalisation and its Challenges and the Research Institute of Asia and the Pacific.

The aim of the conference is to provide an opportunity for members of the AMRN to meet and discuss research related to the themes which will be explored in this year’s meeting of the Asia Pacific Migration Research Network. The conference is also intended to provide a forum for identifying areas of emerging research interest among Australian researchers.

The dates of the conference have been selected to follow immediately after a proposed Sydney conference on immigration and settlement issues organised by the Department of Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs. As it is expected that many Australian and international researchers will be visiting Sydney for the DIMIA conference our intention is to provide an opportunity for a workshop style meeting catering to active researchers from Australia and overseas.

Call for Papers: Researchers, including postgraduate research students, are now invited to submit Abstracts for papers relating to either the themes of the APMRN conference which are:

  • Poverty and Migration
  • Forced Migration
  • Migration and Labour Requirements
  • Migration and Sustainable Development
  • The Role of the State in Facilitating Migration
    OR
  • Another current research area

When submitting your Abstract of 150 words please indicate whether your paper will be a Final Paper or a Report of Work in Progress as different time will be allocated to each type of presentation.

Abstracts and Conference Registrations should be sent by 26 April to:
