Kevin Lynch, an eminent MIT-based urban planner, proposed a project on young adolescents’ developing experience of the city in response to a meeting of UNESCO’s new Man and His Environment Programme in Helsinki, Finland. Entitled initially “Children’s Perception of the Environment,” the project in time found funding from the National UNESCO Committees of Argentina, Australia, Mexico and Poland.
