Moutse
In Moutse, 20 women from Moutse engaged in community development workshops in
Johannesburg and Moutse itself, under the leadership of Mike Sarakinsky and
Lindi Myeza from the ABET Institute of the University of South Africa. They
identified priority needs, established a community development committee,
role played negotiating with provincial officials for assistance, and
identified areas where they could take independent action. Since these first
steps, this initial nucleus of women has broadcast their efforts over the
Moutse Community Radio and created a larger and more representative
organization called Tiangmaatla Basadi (Northern Sotho for "women gathering
strength"). Ongoing development projects will be managed by this
organization.
