Législation
The National Commission, which was officially established in 1947, was reorganized in 1985.
Centre de documentation
The Documentation Centre of the National Commission gathers over 2000 publications and is regularly consulted by school and university students, teachers, scholars and the general public.
Structure de la Commission
The National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly, which meets at least once a year;
- Four Programme Committees, whose members meet regularly, dealing with:
(1) Education;
(2) Sciences;
(3) Culture; and
(4) Communication
- A number of National Committees dealing with: the Management of Social Transformations (MOST); Man and the Biosphere (MAB); Memory of the World; and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC);
- The Secretariat.
Membres/Composition
The National Commission meets in Plenary at least once a year and is composed of some 30 members from various governmental departments and ministries in the fields of UNESCO's competence, as well as representatives of Universities, NGOs, and well-known personalities from the scientific, cultural, educational and communication communities.

Vue d'ensemble
The Colombian National Commission collaborates closely with a number of National Commissions of Latin America. The Commission maintains good relations with the UNESCO Field Units in Caracas, La Havana, Montevideo and Santiago.
