The National Commission was officially established by a Cabinet decision in March 1982, which stands in the form of a memorandum.

A documentation centre has been set up and is being fully equipped. It holds approximately 1300 publications

Members/Composition
The National Commission is composed of 10 Members
General Assembly
Composed of 10 members representing the departments of the State (Basic and Secondary Education; and Higher Education, Research and Technology), governmental organizations and institutions, non-governmental organizations, the media and expert individuals.
The General Assembly meets quarterly.
Committees or Sub-Committees
There are five technical committees, for education, science, social and human sciences, culture and communication. They meet as frequently as necessary.
