Legislation
The Commission's Rules and Regulations were approved by Governmental Decree. They state the objectives of the National Commission, its structure, as well as the duties of its staff.
Documentation Centre
A documentation centre, holding exclusively UNESCO publications, was established in 1992. However, since 1997, it has become part of the Juridicial Faculty of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, where works the former Secretary-General of the National Commission, Ms. A. Karasaeva.
The documentation centre was computerized in 1998 with funds provided by the UNESCO Almaty Office.
Structure of the Commission
The National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly
- 7 Specialized Committees
- Three Sub-Committees for: (1) Education; (2) Science; (3) Culture and Informatics.
- The Secretariat.
Members/Composition
The National Commission comprises 19 institutional and individual members.
Executive Committee
Composed of 4 members: The Chairperson, the Deputy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy of the Minister of Education and Science, and the Minister/Deputy of Culture and Information. The Executive Committee meets once a year or when necessary
General Assembly
Composed of 19 institutional and individual members, including the representatives of the Parliament, the Department of Social Affairs of the President’s Administration, the Department of Social Affairs of the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Culture and Information, National Academy of Sciences, the Central Asian Crafts Support Association, Museums, Higher Education Institutes, ASPnet, State Agency of Environment Protection, etc. The General Assembly meets twice a year.

Interaction with UNESCO and National Commissions
Overview
The Commission collaborates with the National Commissions of many countries in Europe and Asia-Pacific Regions and has traditionally active and constructive cooperation with the UNESCO Bangkok Regional Office, UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office and UNESCO Tashkent Office.
