LegislationThe National Commission was created by a Cabinet Endorsement. The Commission also has a draft Constitution which the office of the Attorney General is reviewing after its presentation to the Cabinet.
Documentation CentreThe National Commission was planning (in 1999) to extend and renovate its office to establish a documentation (mini-media) Centre.
Structure of the CommissionThe Commission meets in plenary every month.
Members/CompositionThe National Commission comprises 13 members, who represent 5 Ministries (Education, Women, Youth, Environment, and Communications), 6 Churches, the Attol Research Unit, as well as a Parlamentarians.
General AssemblyThe Commission has its General Assembly (representing the 13 members of the Commission) which meets in plenary once a month.
Interaction with UNESCO and National Commissions
OverviewThe National Commission, which has been created recently, mainly collaborates with the National Commissions of the Pacific Sub-Region and has collaborated with the UNESCO Field Office in Apia.
