LégislationThe National Commission was officially established in 1971 by an Order of the Council of Ministers.
It is not funded on any legal instrument such as a Constitution.
Centre de documentationThe National Commission has a Documentation Centre, which is administered by a trained documentalist and approximately holds 900 UNESCO publications. The Centre mainly welcomes students and academics.
It is not yet computerised.
Structure de la CommissionThe National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly, which meets at least twice a year;
- The Executive Committee (seven members), which meets at least twice a year;
- 4 Programmme Committees, each of them being responsible for one of the following sectors: Science, Education, Culture and Communication. These Programme Committees are elected (by the General Assembly) every two years and they meet at least twice a year;
- Some occasional Committees can be formed when they are needed.
- The Secretariat.
Membres/CompositionThe National Commission comprises 20 members, who represent the Ministries involved in UNESCO's fields of activity, the civil society (associations and individuals), national institutions (such as universities) and independent lawyers.
Comité exécutifThe Executive Committee has 7 members who meet at least twice a year.
Assemblée généraleThe Commission has 20 members who meet in plenary at least twice a year.
Comités ou sous-comitésThere are programmme committeess for science, education, culture and communication. There is also the Occasional Committee which are formed as and when needed. The Committees are elected every two years and they meet at least twice a year.
Coopération avec l’UNESCO et d'autres Commissions nationales
Vue d'ensembleThe National Commission has collaborated with other African National Commissions and maintains a good relationship with the Windhoek Cluster Office.
