LégislationThe Statutes of the Commission (in Norwegian), adopted in 1946, were revised in 1996 and in 2008.
Centre de documentationThough the National Commission has not settled any Documentation Centre, all UNESCO publications are kept in the offices of the Norwegian UN Association.
Structure de la CommissionThe National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly;
- The Executive Committee;
- Three Working Groups, respectively in charge of: (1) Education; (2) Sciences; (3) Culture and Communication.
- The Secretariat.
Membres/CompositionThe National Commission is composed of 16 members with special skills in at least one of UNESCO`s four disciplines. They represent relevant Ministries, departments, national institutions, agencies as well as Teachers' Associations and Non-Governmental Organizations. The members of the Commission are appointed by the Ministry of Education and Research for a period of four years.
Comité exécutifComposed of 4 members, including of the leaders of the three Working Groups and the Chairperson.
Assemblée généraleComposed of 16 members, representing relevant national institutions, agencies, associations and non-governmental organisations in the fields of UNESCO’s competence. The members of the Commission are appointed by the Ministry of Education and Research for a period of four years. The General Assembly meets three to four times a year.

DescriptionThe commission is co-organiser of the Adult Learners' Week. Throughout the country, local governments and all partners involved in adult learning use the Adult Learners' Week to inform about the wide range of available possibilities. It contains a mulitude of conferences, stands, open classrooms etc.

DescriptionDuring the meeting, it was agreed that Norway will set up and manage a Research Network on the Social Dimensions of Climate Change. The NatCom and the Research Council will seek several funding sources in Norway for this purpose. It was agreed that among the main functions of the network will be to disseminate the results of its work to decision-makers. A working group has been established composed of five researchers o develop a concept paper concerning the theme, methodology, process, scope, etc. of this network. Some of the network’s working group’s members will come to Headquarters to discuss the concept paper and the future co-operation.

DescriptionAn open seminar was organized for the Norwegian launch of the Education under attack-report. The report was introduced by State Secretary Ingrid Fiskaa with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and presented by Mark Richmond, Director, Division for the Coordination of UN Priorities in Education, UNESCO.

Ethical journalism project, including photo exhibition on the safety of journalists

DescriptionThe commission supports the IFJ (International Federation of Journalists)-project Ethical Journalism as a key to Middle-East Peace. Journalist and member of the commission, Kjetil Haanes, is directly involved with the project and the organising of its conferences, rounds tables and training seminars. The aim of the project is to seek to create a distance between professional journalists and the political groups that seek to influence and control their output and to end the intimidation and tit for tat targeting and jailing of journalists assumed to be working for ‘the opposition media’ in the region.

DescriptionAs part of the implementation process with the 2003-convention on intangible cultural heritage, a report was commissioned from Professor Berkaak at the University of Oslo, looking at how the convention can be translated into policy. The seminar was organized in cooperation with ABM-utvikling (Norwegian Archive, Library and Museum Authority) to launch the report, which generated public debates and the inclusion of the report on the curriculum on a MA-degree programme in traditional culture at Telemark University College.

DescriptionThe commission co-organised the Norwegian celebration of the World Water Day, which included a seminar called Water Quality – Challenges and Opportunities and the announcement of the winners of the Norwegian Junior Water Award. Two members of the commission were directly involved: Project and Innovation Director at NIVA (Norwegian Institute for Water Research), Harsha Ratnaweera, led the debates, while artistic director of the Nordic Black Theatre, Cliff Moustache, directed a dance piece on the theme water.
