LegislationThe legal instrument of the National Commission dates back to 1974
The National Commission depends on the Ministry of Education.
Documentation CentreThe Documentation Centre of the Commission mainly holds UNESCO publications as well as Newsletters on Education, Science and Culture. The persons who come to the Center are usually academics.
Structure of the CommissionThe National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The Executive Committee (13 members), which meets at least once a year;
- Five Committees dealing with: (1) Education; (2) Culture; (3) Science; (4) Communication; and (5) Social Science. The Committees meet when required;
- The Secretariat.
Members/CompositionThe Membership of the National Commission represents the Ministries (Education and Sports, Tourism and Culture, Communication, Social Welfare), the Associated Schools and the Federation of UNESCO Clubs in the country, as well as NGOs and individuals in their personal capacity.
Interaction with UNESCO and National Commissions
OverviewThe National Commission has collaborated with the UNESCO Field Offices in Islamabad, Bangkok and New Delhi, and maintains close working relations with the Kathmandu Office.
