LegislationSelon les dernieres informations recues par le Secretariat de l'UNESCO (mai 2001), la Commission nationale se trouve dans un processus de restructuration.
Documentation CentreLe Centre de documentation, administré par un specialiste, dispose d'environ 13 000 volumes et publications de l'UNESCO. Quelques 300 personnes visitent le centre chaque année (des étudiants, des journalistes et des chercheurs scientifiques pour la plupart).
Structure of the CommissionThe National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly
- The Executive Committee, composed of the Secretary-General, the Chairpersons of the five Sub-Committees, and three leading experts in science and culture.
- Five Sub-Committees corresponding to the major program areas of UNESCO, namely: (1) Education; (2) Sciences; (3) Culture; (4) Communication-Information; and (5) Transdisciplinary Programs - Cross Cutting Themes
- The Secretariat
Members/CompositionThe National Commission is composed of 45 members representing the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, the Romanian Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Water, Forest and Environmental Protection, and other institutions and creative arts unions. The Commission meets in Plenary at least once a year.
Executive CommitteeLe Comité directeur a des réunions semestrielles.
General AssemblyLes membres de l'Assemblée générale se reunissent une fois par an.
Committees or Sub-CommitteesLa Commission a 4 sous-commissions: education, science, culture, et communication-information. Elle a egalement un departement d'activites transdisciplinaires. Chaque sous-commission est composee de 9 personnalites des domaines mentionnes. Ces personnalites representent la Presidence de la Republique, le Parlement, les ministeres, autres institutions nationales, les universites, ONGs, media, Clubs UNESCO et individus.

DescriptionThe European Journalism Festival is expecting the participation of over 500 journalists from 27 EU member states and neighbour countries. The topics discussed will include "the role of local and regional media", "citizen journalism", "new media", "new business in the media", "science journalism", but also issues such as "financing and protection of local and regional journalists".

On the occasion of the Festival, the Romania National Commission for UNESCO will also organize a workshop on "Reflection on UNESCO's role in the future - dominance, trends, challenges”.
