LegislationThe Commission, which was established by a decision of the Government, has Statutes dating back to 1993.
Documentation CentreThe Information and Documentation Centre of the Commission, located within the University Library and administrated by a professional librarian, was inaugurated in 1994. Fully computerized, it holds UNESCO publications and welcomes some 1000 visitors each year (mostly parliamentarians, students, academics, journalists and the general public at large).
Structure of the CommissionThe National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly, which meets once a year;
- The Presidency, which meets at least quarterly;
- The Bureau, which meets when required;
- Six Committees dealing with UNESCO's intergovernmental programmes and 2 Committees dealing with UNESCO's fields of activities. The Committees meet when required;
- The Secretariat.
Members/CompositionThe National Commission comprises members representing, in an ex-officio capacity, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education, Culture and Environment, the Slovak Academy of Science, NGOs, as well as eminent personalities of the culture, science and education Slovak communities.
Executive CommitteeThe Bureau of the Commission meets according to necessity.
General AssemblyThe Plenary of the Commission meets once a year in order to evaluate all the year's activities and approve the programme of activities for the coming year.
Committees or Sub-CommitteesThe Commission has 6 sections and 6 Committees for international and intergovernmental programmes of UNESCO. They meet according to necessity. These sections and committees represent the Parliament, the Office of the Government, Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education, Culture and Environment, the Slovak Academy of Science, NGOs, important personalities of Slovak culture, science and education, long term active co-workers of UNESCO proposed by the Bureau of the Commission.

DescriptionAn exhibition of Mining maps and plans of the Main Chamber - Count Office in Banská Štiavnica included in the Memory of the World Register in 1997.
The exhibition of maps and plans was also realized in Veľké Opatovice, the Czech Republic (May-November 2010) and Soul, Korea (June 2010).
