Documentation Centre
The Documentation Centre holds 20,000 UNESCO publications and welcomes some 20,000 visitors each year (mostly students, academics, government officials, teachers and staff members from other National Commissions for UNESCO).
The Center is administered by a librarian who has attended the courses organised by the IBE (Geneva), the Thai Librarian Association, and the Murdock University (Australia).
Structure of the Commission
The National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly, which meets at least once a year;
- Six Specialized Committees dealing with: (1) Education; (2) Science; (3) Culture; (4) Social Science; Communication; and (5) Importation of Educational, Science and Cultural Materials. The Specialized Committees meet three to four times a year;
- The Secretariat.
Members/Composition
The 19 members of the Commission, who are appointed by the Cabinet, represent ministries, national organizations, NGOs, as well as individuals in their personal capacities.
General Assembly
The Commission is appointed by the Cabinet. It meets at least once a year.
Committees or Sub-Committees
The Commission comprises of seven specialised committees and 16 sub-committees. Normally, the specialized committees hold their meetings 3 - 4 times a year, while the sub-committees hold their meetings once every one to two months. The membership is made up of ministries, national organizations, individualsd and NGOs.
Interaction with UNESCO and National Commissions
Overview
The Thai Commission collaborates with the Asia and the Pacific National Commissions (Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Republic of Korea). It cooperates with the UNESCO Field Offices in Bangkok and Jakarta.
