DescriptionThe Forum was organized by the UNESCO National Commissions of Slovenia and Croatia and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre (WHC), in close collaboration with UNESCO's Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet) and the UNESCO Venice Office.
Eleven countries from south-east Europe are represented at the Forum: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Montenegro, Slovenia, Serbia, and observers from Spain, United Arab Emirates and Switzerland.
Participants visited the World Heritage site Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica in the Historic Centre of Poreč and held workshops at the site. They also had the opportunity to visit the Škocjan Caves World Heritage site in Slovenia.

DescriptionThe summit addressed several topics such as copyrights, book tax and presentation of European literature awards.
During this Summit was adopted the Ljubljana resolution which calls for a multi-sided approach to books. The document outlines in nine points guidelines for various policy makers in forming the foundations for development in the field of books. These had been backed by key international and Slovenian organisations concerned before the summit.
Apart from recommendations to public authorities, the resolution highlights the role of professional associations in the field.

This Forum brought together those who are making sure that the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions is becoming a collection of concrete projects, including those emphasising the importance of protection of small languages.
