Since then, KJ has long been widely recognized as one of the most important resources in the field of Korean Studies and is covered by the index of Thompson Reuters Art & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI) and Scopus database.

By disseminating original and outstanding research and book reviews, KJ aims to become a medium for intellectual exchange among scholars in the field of Korean Studies, to promote in-depth understanding of Korea, and to encourage the dialogue between tradition and modernity, humanities and social sciences.
