YOUTH SPEAK- ETHIOPIA YOUTH EMPOWERED ON SDG INVOLVEMENT

On 30th and 31st March 2017 a group of 350 young Ethiopians gathered in Africa Hall at the UNECA compound to take part in the 2017 AIESEC Youth Speak Forum. This Forum was organized for the purpose of educating the participants on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

On the first day of the forum, participants had the opportunity to hear keynote addresses from various stake holders who directly contribute to the achievement of the SDGs such as United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President, Mr. Peter Thompson, the UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative and UN Humanitarian Coordinator Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa-Onochie, the European Union (EU) Delegation in Ethiopia Mr. Sandy Wade, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Prof. Alaphia Wright, and British Council Helen Gamdode.

In addition, two panel discussions on “Critical Role of Youth in Achieving the SDGs” and “Volunteerism” were held. Furthermore, participants of the forum attended “break away” workshops that pertain to specific SDGs. These workshops were facilitated by private, non-governmental and international institutions that are currently engaged in achieving the various SDGs.

DAMASCUS DECLARATION ON EARLY CHILDHOOD

The Regional Arab Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education, held in Damascus from September 20 to 22 under the auspices of the Syrian First lady Mrs. Asma al-Assad, was concluded and issued the Damascus Declaration for Early Childhood Care and Education.
