4th Ordinary Session of the Conference of the AU Ministers in Charge of Youth Development

The Ordinary Session of the Conference of the AU Ministers in Charge of Youth Development (COMY IV), unfolded from 12 to 14 September 2012.

The following themes were discussed during the event:  Youth population: opportunity or threat?, Policies and principles on the African Youth Charter, The Cost of doing business in Africa for young entrepreneurs, and Increasing investment for youth empowerment in Africa.

      UNESCO’s Ms. Joëlle Matte presented together with partner organizations which agreed on working together to help the implementation of the African Youth Charter. Among key issues presented were:  The launching of an online promotion campaign on UNESCO and African Union websites and social media; The development of a research project about the role of social media in African youth's civic involvement and empowerment; and  UNESCO's support to the AUC for the setting up of the Youth National Council.

  Several recommendations for the Member States (MS) were summarized at the end of the conference such as, for example, MS to consider to host the Continental Volunteer training and submit expression of interest for 2013 and 2014, to consider the criteria and host agreement for establishment of an Operational secretariat of the AU-YVC by 2015 or to conduct National Youth Policy Compliance assessment.
