Conference on Women and Development in Africa
The Conference Women and Development in Africa is organized by the International Union of Engineers and Scientists using French language (UISF) and the International Union of Technical and Engineering Associations (UATI), in partnership with the Africa Department of UNESCO, and under the high patronage of Mrs. Antoinette Sassou Nguesso, spouse of the Republic of Congo’s President.
This Conference, which will be opened by the Assistant-Director General for Africa, Mrs. Lalla Aïcha BEN BARKA, will aim at presenting women’s health in its cultural dimension. African women use a lot more cosmetics than the western women; it is therefore important to know the products that are been made or transformed in Africa and the industry around them.
The Conference will go through a varied range of themes, from diabetes to skin lightening cosmetic products. These themes will be debated all day long on the 29th of November, during two working sessions: one on Health and Beauty, the other one on Health and Development. They will be followed by a round table. The objective of this day is to draw up a balance of the situation and to present recommendations according to women’s health and development in Africa. When defining the MDGs, women’s health had been the target of many recommendations; it is therefore a crucial point. Member States, laboratories and industries can contribute to improve the health and the beauty of African women.
This Conference will give the opportunity to UISF to launch a new sector of activity: “Women and Development”, priority of UNESCO, divided into two sections: Women and Africa, and Women and Development by Education, Science and Technology.
This day will also be an opportunity to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the creation of UTAI by UNESCO. His Excellency Mr. Papa Momar DIOP, Ambassador of Senegal for UNESCO will offer his testimony at the end of the day.
