Two staff of the Meteorological department in Jordan to be trained at the International Center for Theoretical Physics in Italy on climate change modeling

Two staff from the Jordan meteorological department were sent for a training in climate change modeling in the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy. The awardees will be working closely with Earth Science Division at ICTP on developing a regional model of climate change for Jordan. The training started on the 6th of June and will continue till the 22nd of July 2011. The activity was organized by UNESCO Office in Amman as part of the joint UN programme “Adaptation to climate change to sustain Jordan’s MDG achievement” of the MDG Achievement Fund.

The MDG Achievement Fund is an international cooperation mechanism whose aim is to accelerate progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) worldwide. Under this fund, in Jordan, UNESCO together with three UN organizations -UNDP, Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), and the World Health Organization (WHO) – is part of a joint UN programme to enhance Jordan’s capacity to adapt to climate change.
