UNESCO Amman and the Higher Council for Science and Technology visit science institutions in Turkey
Amman 17 October 2010 – A visit organized by the UNESCO office in Jordan for a delegation headed by the Secretary General of the Higher Council of Science and Technology, Dr Khaled Shreideh and the UNESCO Amman head of office, aimed at visiting major scientific institutions in the Turkish capital in charge of preparing and implementing the science and technology policy and strategy for the country.
This visit took place within the framework of the project for the development of the science, technology and innovation policy & strategy for Jordan for the years 2012-2015 funded by the Japanese government. The delegation was greeted at the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) by vice President Prof. Dr. Ömer Anlağan and the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) by Prof. Yucel Kanpolat, President. The visit included extensive presentations, knowledge sharing and discussions about experiences in the two countries in particular on the contribution that research and development in the scientific fields could bring to the economic growth in the respective countries and their contributions to the region. Bilateral cooperation activities were also part of the visit agenda. A visit was also paid at Faculty of Education at the Middle East University, one of the country’s faculties aimed at forming the new generation of teachers at primary and secondary level including in the scientific fields, and the UNESCO National Commission in Turkey.
