This morning at Headquarters, Audrey Azoulay met to exchange with all Directors and Heads of Field Offices. During this meeting, the Director-General thanked them warmly for their decisive commitment in the field: “I witnessed the great dedication and professionalism of your teams during my first official visits. You should be proud of this.” Before highlighting the unique expertise of UNESCO, she said that “government trust in us is key, as is, more broadly, our credibility within civil society.”

The Director-General particularly congratulated the involvement of the teams in the first <a id="LPlnk416482" href="https://en.unesco.org/news/unesco-holds-its-first-partners-forum">UNESCO Partners’ Forum</a> which took place over two days in Paris, as well as for their mobilization for the “<a id="LPlnk583709" href="https://en.unesco.org/projects/the-spirit-of-mosul">Revive the Spirit of Mosul</a>” initiative.

Furthermore, Audrey Azoulay expressed her willingness to reinforce synergies between work at Headquarters and this in the field, in order to reduce the perceived distance and increase the Organization’s impact. In this regard, the Director-General declared:“ the teams, be they at Headquarters or in the field, must work as one. You are us and we are you.”

In conclusion, she recalled "we have a unique responsibility to bear, because UNESCO - through its commitment to education, culture and the sciences, is a response to the major challenges of the world. This is what makes our institution precious, and undoubtedly more necessary now than ever.”
