Skills are vital for poverty reduction, economic recovery and sustainable development. As a consequence, attention to technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is increasing worldwide.TVNET In Jordan, TVET is an essential component to provide youth with the skills and knowledge needed to meet today’s increasingly competitive and knowledge-based economy.

In line with national development priorities, UNESCO aims to mainstream and improve the TVET sector in Jordan. UNESCO focuses on promoting and strengthening entrepreneurship education to respond to the needs of the Jordanian labor market. The following are activities conducted by the UNESCO Amman Office in the field of TVET:

  • Provision of support to the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Jordan;
  • Contribution to the Entrepreneurship Education (EPE) project that collected, systematized and disseminated innovative and successful experiences of EPE from different countries in the region (2009-2010) and provided technical support to the development of strategic plans on how to incorporate EPE into educational systems (2010-2012).
  • Creation of the UNESCO Chair in TVET at Al-Balqa Applied University.
