In the framework of the "Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural property”, the UNESCO Amman office and the Department of Antiquities have joined forces to address the illicit trafficking of cultural items. UNESCO endorsed the Convention in 1970 in order to strengthen the efforts to counter illicit trafficking of cultural property. Under the guidance of the Government of Jordan, UNESCO has undertaken a needs assessment to enhance responsiveness to this phenomenon. Based on this assessment, a number of trainings have been provided to relevant stakeholders including the Department of Antiquities, Ministries and other officials.
