In the framework of the reformed electoral process in Jordan and of the 2013 Parliamentarian elections, ‘Enhancing Professional and Accurate media on the electoral process in Jordan’ aims at building technical capacities of the media. The Project funded by the European Union, involves media stakeholders from print, electronic and online media (reporters, editors, managers and owners) and has as ultimate goal reporting professionally, accurately and comprehensively in order to enable a free and more objective/impartial information and reporting on electoral processes. The increased capacity of the media community will enable a free, objective and impartial access to information and reporting on elections. Ultimately, the public confidence and participation in the electoral and democratic process will be enhanced.
The initiative builds upon UNESCO’s two-decade experience in building the capacities of media sectors at large during elections (e.g. in South-Eastern Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA), Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America), and also based on needs assessed in the past months during a wide consultation with Jordanian media stakeholders. Jordan Media Institute, Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism and Community Media Network, together with Albany Associates have been selected as major partners in this initiative.Back to top
