IYD 2012 Samoa at NUS, 17 Aug 2012
Come to the Careers Fair and Forum for Youth at National University of Samoa from 9am-12pm on August 17th to participate in IYD 2012 Celebrations!
International Youth Day is observed annually on August 12th to motivate, empower and address issues concerning youth. This year’s theme of “ Building a better world: Partnering with Youth”, is a global call to action for young men and women, as well as other stakeholders to develop and engage partnerships with and for youth towards building a better world.
In response to this theme, the United Nations family have partnered with the National University of Samoa (NUS), Samoa Chamber of Commerce, and SPREP to host a Careers Forum for Youth on August 17th during NUS Open Day.
Students are encouraged to come and talk to representatives from the private sector, public sector and academic resources and institutions, including the Samoa Chamber of Commerce, UN, SPREP, MFAT (Scholarship Division), and others.
The booths will be in the NUS Gym from 9am – 12pm.
From 10am - 11am, media clips dealing with youth related issues will be shown in the NUS Lecture Theatre (D201), including UNWomen’s documentary on the “Women of Fugalei” and the Ministry of Women: Division for Youth’s documentary “Let’s talk about it,” on reproductive health in young people.
Afterwards, there will be a panel of six interesting people to speak to our young people to inspire and encourage them to reach for their dreams. This panel’s focus will be to let young people know that there are broader definitions of “success,” and that many different pathways exist in achieving that goal.
The panel will be in the NUS Lecture Theatre (D201) from 11am – 12pm.
We would like to extend our invitation to all the young people in Samoa to come curious, and leave inspired!
