SIDS Regional Youth Consultations

Three regional consultations with young people aged 12-30 have been completed as part of the preparatory phase for the SIDS 2014 Global Conference. The meetings took place in Kingston Jamaica, Nadi, Fiji and Victoria, Seychelles. Approximately 70 young people from SIDS countries participated in the meetings and each group had a small delegation that presented their views and deliberations to Government representatives at the official SIDS Regional Preparatory events.

Three regional documents were produced summarising what young people from SIDS countries think is important for the renegotiation of a new SIDS program for the next decade. This is the start of a longer term conversation of young people including national meetings and campaigns, social media such as Facebook and Twitter, and representation at inter-regional and expert meetings that will be held over the next 12 months.
