Arab youth link health with education

Young people form 11 Arab States developed project ideas to address health related problems and community development issues in a workshop organized by UNESCO Beirut in Tunis (21-23 August 2007).

The workshop entitled "Second Regional Youth Forum on Health Awareness and Community Development”, was held in Tunis, Tunisia 21-23 August 2007. The Forum allowed a wide exhange of national and regional experiences in health and education. Participating students and teachers acquired related information and skills.

The Forum took place within the framework of FRESH (Focusing Resources on Effective School Health) phase three (2006-2007) and the International Decade on Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014 (ESD).

Participants from Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan. Lebanon. Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Sudan, Tunisia and Yemen attended the Forum. Organizations such as UNESCO, IESESCO and Arab Scouts Association also were represented.

The event was organized by UNESCO Beirut Office and IESESCO and in cooperation with Societe du Medicines Generalist du Tunisie (SMGT). The third youth Forum will be held in Cairo, Egypt in 2008.
