With less than four years remaining until 2015, the world is still far from achieving the six Education for All (EFA) goals. To accelerate progress towards the 2015 targets, there is an urgent need to mobilize major political and financial commitment at the national, regional and global levels.

In the wake of this mobilization UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in the Arab States, organized a three days regional consultation meeting in Sharjah, United-Arab-Emirates from 10 to 12 July 2011.

The main participants were the EFA coordinators and the LIFE and Adult Education coordinators of the Arab States, as well as members’ staff from UNESCO regional offices.

This regional meeting on EFA, Basic Education and Adult Education aimed at establishing an overview of the achievements and challenges regarding the EFA goals, at national and regional levels. It has also contributed to encourage South-South cooperation in this sector, reinforcing the collaboration between the Arab region, Asia and Africa.

The meeting has revitalised the EFA process in the Arab Region.(see outcomes and recommendations)
