9th Brazilian Congress on STD/Aids Prevention starts on 28 August in São Paulo
The 9th Brazilian Congress on STD/Aids Prevention, focused on theme “Systems of Community Health and Networks” will be carried through 28 to 31 August, in São Paulo. It will include workshops, round-tables and conferences. In parallel, the Brazilian Congress on Prevention of Viral Hepatitis will take place as part of the VI Latin American and Caribbean Forum on HIV/Aids and STD and of the V Latin American and Caribbean Communitarian Forum on HIV/Aids and DST.
UNESCO will participate in the 9th Congress by launching the online course entitled Youth, Sexualities and STD/Aids Prevention dedicated to educators and health professionals. The launch will take place on 30 August 2012, at 4 p.m. The course’s goal is to support the capacity-building of these professionals who work with young adults and adolescents. Its main focus is the promotion of health and prevention of sexually transmissible diseases and AIDS, in the context of the sexual and reproductive rights.
The temporary coordinator of Education at the UNESCO Office in Brasilia, Maria Rebeca Otero, will do a presentation on homophobia in schools and educational strategies for health prevention among indigenous peoples. Her lecture will be on 31 August, starting at 2:30 p.m. She will also participate in two award ceremonies: one for the Non-Governmental Organizations that have fulfilled the goals of UNESCO-sponsored programmes and another for young adults that have produced one-minute videos (Minutinho).
