Brasilia hosts the V International Forum of Communication and Sustainability
The event takes place on 20 and 21 September and features Nobel of Peace laureates Jody Williams (1997) and Mohan Munasinghe (2007)
Equal rights, respect to diversity, social technologies, water as a source of life and the Law on Solid Waste are in the center of the discussions taking place at the V International Forum of Communication and Sustainability (FICO.SU). The debate will refer to recent quests and conquests, putting forth gender equality and the valuing of differences as fundamental cornerstones for the construction of present-day life under the principles of sustainable development. In addition, the forum will discuss major environmental matters of today such as reverse logistics and the problems brought about by pollution, scarcity of resources and inadequate water distribution.
The objective of this forum, that will be held at the Center of Events and Conventions Brasil 21 (SHS Quadra 06, Complexo Brasil 21), is to treat communication and sustainability in a clear, direct and practical manner, so that everyone can grasp the need for integrating education and communication for sustainable development in the country.
Aimed at the democratization of constructive ideas and experiences, the event proposes a debate among representatives of several areas of knowledge. Prospective participants may register free of charge at fico.su/2012/. The V FICO.SU will gather around 1,500 participants. It is sponsored by Petrobrás, Banco do Brasil, Brasilprev and Avianca, in cooperation with UNESCO since its second edition.
On Friday (21/09), starting at 3pm, Marlova Jovchelovitch Noleto, Coordinator of Human and Social Sciences Sector at UNESCO Office in Brasilia, participates on the round table Democracy, Non-Violence and Peace, that addresses themes related to respect toward differences. Luiza Barros, Chief-Minister of the Secretary Office for Promotion Policies of Ethnical Equality, Renato Caporali, Superintendent-Director of SESI, Rodrigo Mendes, professor at Getúlio Vargas Foundation and singer/actor Toni Garrido will also participate in the V FICO.SU.
