Caju Cemetery receives visit from students on the Distinguished Mortals Trail

Students of the Municipal School Marechal Mascarenhas de Moraes, in the Caju neighborhood of the city of Rio de Janeiro, went on a different tour than what they are used to. They visited the “Trail of the Distinguished Mortals” in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. The main objective of this visit was to allow students of the Schools of Tomorrow Programme, to learn about personalities buried at the site, which is part of the largest cemetery complex of Rio de Janeiro.

The Schools of Tomorrow Programme was created by the Municipal Secretary of Education of Rio de Janeiro, in 2009, in partnership with UNESCO, and its main objective is to improve the quality of the educational system and to reduce school drop-out rates in violent or pacified areas of the city.
