Congonhas Museum: a report of an experience

UNESCO in Brazil presents one of its most successful projects in the field of Culture: the design and implementation of the Congonhas Museum, near the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos in Congonhas (Minas Gerais). The Sanctuary in the city of Congonhas was inscribed in the World Heritage List in 1985.

This publication describes in detail the process from conception to creation of the Museum, including the first results after its opening. It clearly shows a case in which the World Heritage Convention (1972) has operated in a cooperation platform guided by its five strategic objectives known as the 5Cs due to the keywords that synthesize each one: Credibility of the World Heritage List; Communities strengthened; Conservation of goods being effective; Capacity-building of States Parties; and Communication to increase public awareness and engagement.
