Dialogue, tolerance and peace are the themes of 2019 World Radio Day

In commemoration of the World Radio Day, celebrated on 13 February, UNESCO in Brazil launches a campaign to stimulate the participation of Internet users to send a voice message about the themes of this year’s celebration. The audio should be an answer to the question "What is the message of dialogue, tolerance and peace that you would send to the world through the radio?".

World Radio Day is an opportunity to celebrate this efficient mean of communication, to enlarge international cooperation among broadcasters, and to encourage radio networks and communities to promote access to information and freedom of expression through sound waves.

Radio is the mean of communication that reaches the largest number of people in the world. It is recognized as a powerful communication tool and it is accessible at a low cost.

The campaign messages can be sent via the application WhatsApp, and should last no more than 30 seconds. Selected messages will be posted at the social media channels of UNESCO in Brazil and shared with partner radio stations of the Organization. The audios - one per person - should be sent  until 11 February, 2019, by the end of the day, for (+55 61) 9 9848-8971, along with written information of the full name, the city and the state where the participant lives.

All participants will be automatically assigning the rights of the voice message and his/her name for institutional use of the Organization. Audios with inappropriate content, offensive connotations and political propaganda will be deleted.

This is the eighth edition of World Radio Day. The Day was proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2011 and recalls the importance of this vehicle of communication that can foster dialogue and promote positive change worldwide.
