As a way to value and promote museums that are not very popular in Brazil, this is the story of the Museu de Imagens do Inconsciente (Images of the Unconscious Museum). It was created by the Psychiatrist Nise da Silveira to exhibit the artworks made by mental hospital patients, which have been artistically acknowledged by Brazilian art professionals. The patients are from the current hospital Nise da Silveira Municipal Institute and former Psychiatric Centre Pedro II. Today, the museum collection has around 360 thousand artworks.
