Main Objective:
The purpose of the Chair is to promote an integrated system of research, training, information and documentation on global understanding for sustainability. It will facilitate collaboration between high-level, internationally recognized researchers and teaching staff of the University and other institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe.
Specific Objectives:
- undertake research jointly with partners on the relationship between sustainable development and culture, linguistic and cultural diversity, and multilingualism, and disseminate results widely notably through conferences, seminars and publications;
- contribute to the elaboration of policies concerning the preservation and development of multilingualism as a prerequisite for sustainable development at community and national levels;
- promote linguistic education and the preservation of linguistic diversity, bilingual and multilingual education, including online education, as well as social inclusion through language education;
- create a research network of universities, institutes and other relevant organizations, and promote joint research and training, visiting professors and the exchange of faculty, researchers and students;
- collaborate closely with UNESCO and existing UNESCO Chairs on relevant programmes and activities.
