Universal Declaration of Human Rights completes 70 years

Message from Ms Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, on the occasion of Human Rights Day, 10 December 2018

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights embodies the eternal yearning of humanity for freedom, justice and dignity. It is not the product of a single culture or tradition but a common foundation for all individuals to lead fulfilled lives, and for all peoples and all nations to live in peace. This year, we celebrate 70 years since the world’s nations came together to define this comprehensive set of inherent, inalienable and universal human rights.
