15.12.11 Abraji graduates its first class of the online course “Journalism with Public Information”
The first group selected for the online course “Transparency and Research” has finished its training and handed in their final papers. They are part of a group of 75 journalists and journalism students selected from over 500 applications, for the first class of the course.
14.12.11 UNESCO leads a landmark anti-bullying initiative
On the eve of the celebration of the tenth occasion of Human Rights Day, 10 December 2011, UNESCO convened the United Nations’ first-ever international consultation to address bullying against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and inter-sex (LGBTI) students in educational institutions. The landmark event, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 5-9 December 2011, brought together experts from UN agencies, NGOs, ministries of education and academia from more than 25 countries around the world.
12.12.11 International Technical Meeting on South-South Cooperation discusses Education for Youth and Adults
From 12 to 16/12, the UNESCO Chair of Youth and Adult Education of the Federal University of Paraiba (UFPB), in partnership with the Portuguese-speaking Afro-Brazilian University of Integration (UNILAB), and with the support of SECADI/MEC and UNESCO, will host an International Technical Meeting on South-South Cooperation between Portuguese speaking countries in the field of Youth and Adult Education, in João Pessoa (PB).

The Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) and UNESCO in Brazil disseminate, on Friday (09/12), during the celebration of International Anti-Corruption Day, the Executive-Summary of the survey called “Diagnóstico sobre valores, conhecimento e cultura de acesso à informação pública no Poder Executivo Federal Brasileiro”.

09.12.11 GHA Collection in Portuguese celebrates one year with 390 thousand downloads
On 9 December, the launch of the Portuguese edition of the UNESCO Collection of General History of Africa completes a year. Since then, 391 thousand free downloads of the collection were made.
09.12.11 Underground Sociabilities: identity, culture and resistance in marginalized communities
The UNESCO Office in Brazil, in partnership with the London School of Economics (LSE), the Itaú Social and Cultural Foundations, Afro Reggae and CUFA, is conducting a survey to study forms of sociability that remain invisible and underground, within conventional societies. The main objective of the survey is to explore alternative means of integration and socialization that are developed by communities that live in extreme poverty and social exclusion, as well as to study and disseminate the methodology of working with youths developed by groups such as AfroReggae and CUFA.
07.12.11 In 2012, 114 projects will be benefitted by Criança Esperança Project
UNESCO selected 114 social projects that will be supported by Criança Esperança in 2012, benefitting over 60 thousand children, youths and young people throughout Brazil. A total of 800 projects applied for resources obtained by the 2011 campaign.
