The Fourth World Day for Audiovisual Heritage is celebrated by UNESCO this year with the special focus on women and on the theme “Save and Savour your Audiovisual Heritage – Now”. The World Day presents an opportunity to reflect on the role that audiovisual heritage plays in our modern society.

The exhibition “United Nations and Brazil: 65 years of cooperation, 65 years of accomplishments” tells through historic photos, the participation of Brazil in the process of ONU’s creation and consolidation, which was founded in 1945 and today gathers 192 State-parties.

A publication telling the history of 25 years of Criança Esperança Programme is launched during a debate in São Paulo. Besides the main partners TV Globo and UNESCO, São Paulo governor Alberto Goldman, the Mayor Gilberto Kassab, representatives of NGOs, third sector institutions and entrepreneurs also participated in the discussion.

20.10.10 Debate on the application of UNESCO’s Media Development Indicators gathers different segments in Brasília
An initial kick off was given to the application of the Media Development Indicators developed by UNESCO to be headed by Coletivo Intervozes, the Laboratory of Communication Policies of the University of Brasilia (FAC-UnB) and the Nucleus of Transdisciplinary Studies on Communication and Conscience of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NETCCON).
18.10.10 Event will debate sustainability indicators for media businesses
On the 21st and 22nd of October, the Latin American Seminar “Sustainability Indicators for the Media Sector” will be held in Brasília. The event will debate, with representatives from the media and stakeholders from the whole region, the first version of a tool that´s being crafted under the coordination of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI): the Media Sector Supplement.
15.10.10 Candidates to the Presidency of Brazil take on a commitment to education on the Teacher’s Day
This year Brazil celebrates the National Teachers’ Day (October 15) with an unprecedented fact. On this day, both candidates to the Presidency of the Republic, Dilma Roussef (PT) and José Serra (PSDB) take on a commitment to implement fundamental actions towards a better education in Brazil foreseen in a Commitment Letter proposed by 27 institutions, including UNESCO.
The Commitment Letter was delivered to Dilma Roussef, in Sao Paulo, and to José Serra, in Paraná.

Ten years ago, world leaders adopted the eight Millennium Development Goals, including a pledge to halve the proportion of people living in extreme poverty. Despite significant advances, the world is not on track to achieve the goals by their 2015 target date. Gathered in September 2010 at the High-level Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on the Millennium Development Goals, leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the goals and agreed on a roadmap to accelerate progress.
