Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education

In 2015, the international community discussed global efforts for emphasizing the importance of education to achieve sustainable development, emphasizing the importance of education to ensure a sustainable future for all. Thus, the community established 17 Sustainable Development Objectives (SDGs). The SDGs comprise the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The SDGs and targets aim to stimulate action over the next fifteen years in the Five Ps of critical importance:
 
People,
Planet,
Prosperity,
Peace and
Partnership. 

Gathered at the World Education Forum in South Korea in 2015 the education community defined the Incheon Declaration, which is their commitment  to the UN Sustainable Development Goal for education (SDG 4):

“Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”

In addition, the Declaration established the Education 2030 agenda, which entrusted UNESCO to lead, coordinate and be the focal point for education within the overall SDG coordination. The Education 2030 Framework for Action outlines how to translate into practice the commitments made at Incheon at country, regional and global level and provides guidance for implementing Education 2030.

SDG 4 reflect the important role of education by encapsulating targets in a stand-alone goal (Goal 4). In other words, education is also included in other SDGs related to health, growth and employment, production, among others.
