General History of Africa Collection in Portuguese - launching events

UNESCO has launched several relevant events to promote the launching of the translation into Portuguese of the General History of Africa Collection, in order to promote ethnic equality, racial relations, and intercultural dialogue.

In April, 2011, three launching events of the Portuguese version of the General History of Africa Collection took place in Brazil: 

  • One was in Salvador, another in São Paulo, and the last one in Belo Horizonte. All events gathered African and Brazilian experts as well as local and national authorities, besides the participation of professors and students.

On 21 June 2011, a fourth lauching event of the Collection took place in Pará State.

On 22 July 2011,  the fifth launching the Portuguese edition of the Collection General History of Africa took place in the state of Tocantins during the International Book Fair.

On 11 August 2011, UNESCO launched General History of Africa Collection at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. The event was in memorian of Abdias do Nascimento.
