Stakeholders meeting on the European Year of Cultural Heritage

UNESCO Liaison Office in Brussels participated on 28 April at the 1st stakeholder meeting of the group “Voices of Culture and Heritage” to assist the European Commission with the implementation of the European Year of Cultural Heritage at EU level. This group will meet again in September and December 2017.

This first meeting discussed what will happen on 2018 at the EU and member state level, target groups and key messages with around 35 stakeholders, international organisations and the European Commission.

On 15 February 2017 the Council of the EU and the European Parliament agreed to nominate 2018 as the first European Year for Cultural Heritage, which will celebrate the diversity and richness of European culture, with the aim to also raise awareness of European history and values and to strengthen a sense of European identity.

The objective of the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage is to encourage more people to discover and explore Europe’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. The Year will pursue an integrated approach to heritage, and put people at the centre.
